ABOUT US:
Southern Colorado Mopars (SCM -- http://www.southerncoloradomopars.org/ ) is a family oriented and incorporated automobile club dedicated to the interest, preservation and restoration of Mopar® products past and present. SCM was established in 1987 and incorporated in the state of Colorado in 1991 and is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado serving the entire Southern Colorado region. We have members as far away as Yoder to the East, Denver to the North, Leadville to the West, and Arizona to the Southwest. Member # 1, Nate J., is still with us. The interest and enthusiasm we show for Chrysler, Plymouth, DeSoto, Dodge cars and trucks, AMC and Jeep vehicles is our hallmark. Ownership of a vehicle is NOT required! However, whatever brand of Mopar you may have, don't be concerned if you're just getting started, or if it's not quite finished. We've been there. Many of us are still there, and lots of us think that's the best part!
SCM is comprised of members with every skill level, from shade-tree mechanic to professional and specialized fabricators, mechanics and machinists. Within our organization we offer our members opportunities to make new friends, share common interests, exchange information, literature, parts locations, and share experiences in a number of diverse environments, enjoyable events, and club activities. We provide our membership with a monthly newsletter containing news, views, trivia, parts wanted, parts for sale, parts for free, and relevant technical advice. Members also receive discounts on parts and services from both local and national retail outlets.
Our club is run via an elected board of officers who share the interests and enthusiasm of the membership. Being an officer requires hard work and sincere dedication. Club Officers are responsible for the management of club events, activities and general organization, as well as representing SCM within the collector car community to ensure that the membership has an opportunity to participate in auto related events throughout the local area. They, as are the rest of us, work to expand the club and encourage the fullest possible involvement in activities and experiences that enhance the pride of ownership, enjoyment and appreciation of Mopar vehicles. In addition to the board, we also have an Activities committee composed of 3 members. This committee coordinates special events and develops new activities.
SCM members support and engage in a number of charitable activities that benefit our community as a whole. Our benchmark event is the Good Times Car Show which benefits The Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). CCI is a nonprofit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. CCI is funded by private contributions and receives no government funding.
Over the years SCM, with various co-sponsor clubs (The Colorado Cruisers, The Crusin' Mamas Car Club, The Rocky Mountain Mustangers, Modern Mopar Muscle Club and the Colorado Springs Corvair Club) put on the Good Times Car Show. This is an all-makes, all-models car & truck show presented on the main street of historic Old Colorado City. There are numerous classes judged, many special awards, event t-shirts, goody-bags, and lots of door prizes. There were 400 cars registered in 2014. It was our 23rd Good Times Show and the 17th in Old Colorado City. Over the years this show has raised over $83,000 for CCI and $13,000 for Pikes Peak Hospice and the Colorado Springs Police Protective Association. Several SCM members participate in the planning and execution of the Good Times Car Show and report to the board and membership monthly.
MONTHLY MEETINGS:
Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at Perkins Motor City Dodge, located at 1205 Motor City Dr., in Colorado Springs. The meetings are held in the conference room on the second floor. Meetings begin at 7:00 P.M., although most members show up early in order to visit. The meetings are a great opportunity to talk with other Mopar owners who may know where to find that part you need or how to fix those problems that you may not have seen before. Lastly, drive your car!! These meetings are a great excuse to bang the gears, clean the pipes and get a little therapy for that Car Nut you find behind the wheel. Parking is available outside the Service entrance.
Some of our members and cars at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 2005.
EVENTS:
In addition to the activities and events mentioned above, SCM offers, and its members have participated in, many exciting events and activities throughout the years. Several of our more typical activities are listed below. Please go to our Past Club Events link for photographs of some of these venues.
